Enapter has secured orders for 2.5MW of its AEM electrolysers from Italian industrial firms within state-subsidised hydrogen valley regions.
A 1MW Nexus 1000 multicore system will be installed at Cogne Acciali Speciali’s long stainless steel and nickel alloy products plant in the Aosta Valley to supply hydrogen for process heat applications.
Serving sectors including automotive, oil and gas, chemicals and aviation, the installation which is due to be powered by solar and hydropower is hoped to decarbonise Cogne’s production processes.
Furthermore, Sangraf International has ordered two AEM Nexus electrolysers with a capacity of 1.5MW to use green hydrogen in the manufacturing of graphite electrodes for smelting in steel, iron and non-ferrous metal industries.
Set to replace a 10{c431b1036349617aea55b35aa92592c3cb3fecc7f94273a754a3b674e9a603ce} portion of its natural gas use, the electrolyser system will use a 2.6MW solar system at its plant in Narni.
Narni and the Aosta Valley are among the 52 state-subsidised hydrogen valleys (hubs). The Italian Government has earmarked €500m for projects which look to build hydrogen production plants and refuelling stations.
Enapter says it has already received orders for 6.5MW of its electrolyser for various Italian hydrogen valley projects.
Jürgen Laakmann, CEO of Enapter, said the firm’s system flexibility and lack of iridium have been key points of attraction to industrial companies.
“These advantages are leading to steadily growing market penetration,” he said. “Our sales pipeline is full to bursting, especially in the megawatt range.”
AEM electrolysis builds on the advantages of alkaline electrolysers but hopes to avoid some of its weaknesses. The technology operates in a diluted environment which is safer to handle than alkaline while not using the noble metals needed for PEM.
